What would you do: Guy the car behind me made gun hand gestures at me repeatedly

If finger guns are a crime, Phil in accounting will be serving 25 to life.

You're wrong. DC merged 311 services into the 911 system back in 2008. The Office of Unified Communications handles all requests, including non-emergencies. This is how it works in DC.

Call 911 for any POLICE service (emergency or non-emergency) or other emergency services. Prior to 2008, 311 was police non-emergency.

However, after this article was written, 311 was repurposed for all city non-police, non-emergency services.

Just clarifying because anyone who knows 311 as the Citywide Call Center might see that old article and think they should now call 911 for potholes.

People can do hand signals all day long at other people and its not a crime.

This.

Never, ever engage crazy people, whether behind the wheel or otherwise. Let him take his fight elsewhere.

Did I miss something? Was there a crime committed? I didn't see anything about a crime in the OP's post.

Always one up.

Engaging an angry driver would be pretty stupid...especially with her kids in the car.

Don't be an idiot!!! Most road rage accidents happen when one driver decides to engage the upset driver. Your best choice is to take the high road and ignore him.

Maybe he was just rapping along to Bad & Boujee and made the finger gun motion during the "pew, pew, pew" part of the song.

I always make a gun noise at that part of the song. Never added hand gestures, though.

He needs a visit from the cops to straighten him out.

This would not be an appropriate response. The appropriate response would be to ignore. But if you really felt like you MUST call the police, use the non-emergency number. I'd want you arrested if you called 911 for this.

You're a lunatic.

This is exactly what 911 is used for in most major localities. In DC, 911 is the general government services number for ANYTHING that may involve the police, fire department, and paramedics. This would include noise complaints, getting an illegal parked car towed, etc. It goes through 911 because that's where the city can track and keep records of all requests.

No, the man did not commit a crime. But he did make a threatening gesture to a mother and a child. Most cops I know would be happy to drop by and give the man a stern lecture on his front porch about appropriate behavior while driving.

I have always wondered about this-- if I call to report someone driving erratically, threatening people, or whatever, and give 911 their license plate, do the police really go to their house? I've called in what appears to be a drunk driver in the past and wondered if they do anything like that.

I wanted to make a Twitter where I posted pictures of people who drive like jerks, but my lawyer husband told me not to.

I would have done my Bruce Lee impression and really scared the crap out of him!

Ok, could be a deranged lunatic, or could be a stressed out tired man who was pretending to shoot you to entertain himself and really never occurred to him that ypu would see. If he followed you, was making aggressive moves with his car, or verbally threatened to follow you and kill you, call the cops. Hand gestures, do nothing.

Ask yourself this, would you want your kids expelled from school because they were playing guns with thier fingers?

What kind of car was it?
