Are you on MONA? It would be great to get this info out to that group and on NextDoor. |
MONA is non-political so couldn't organize anything to support/oppose this. |
| why does the 4th HS have to be a 'comprehensive' HS? i think that's what SB is telling us. is a HS not 'comprehensive' enough without a football team and a pool? HB doesn't have those neither does AT@CC, but I believe they are still a popular/viable option for many families. |
Is it against their terms to email the group about the issues/events though? Goodness knows I don't talk politics with some of my neighbors, but I do periodically email them about school-related stuff (like filling out the survey) because some of them don't have kids in the schools yet and are not as keyed in. |
It becomes an issue if that 4th high school has an assigned neighborhood vs. being an option/lottery school. People who choose HB/AT have decided the benefits of those programs are worth the trade-offs for the things you don't get. But, there would be a big outcry if 1/4 of the county is zoned to a HS that does not offer the same opportunities as other schools. Although, given space, I do think they'll have to be resigned to not having a 4th football stadium. |
MONA can definitely let members know that this decision is being debated and how to be involved but they cannot advocate for one outcome over another. |
Neither of you are taking into consideration that the HB kids can do all of those things at their base schools. They can play sports if they choose. |
SALA RULES AND MONA DROOLS! viva sala |
As the population grows, having all those kids competing for spots at only 3 schools will make participation in (important for college) extracurriculars not an option for most of the students. |
Viva SALA! But, we don't have a cool listserv, so let's encourage our neighbors to the north to use theirs for a good cause. |
+1. The actual plans are clear as mud. |
Grumble ... SALA agrees... |
Oh totally. That's why I don't think the career center is a good choice. We need a fourth FULL school. |
This. If choice programs are that awesome , kids should be all in. There is no home school where they can take other classes, extracurricular a. You want the smaller program, you take the good with the bad and roll the dice when it comes to college admission. |
| Well the 4th HS teams can definitely share athletic fields with other schools if need to. It's not perfect but even the pro teams do this so I'm sure schools/parents/kids can make it work. And it doesn't have to be entirely at the expense of WL (if at CC) or WF (if at Kenmore). |
