Arlington Middle Schools

That option is to build a separate building on the Kenmore site for a high school not to displace the middle School (at least not to right away)

Kenmore has cotaught classes for all subjects. I understand TJ/IB has a heavy focus on writing. We picked Kenmore over TJ as writing is not my DC's strength. We're very happy with Kenmore. Classes are small, no trailers, each child gets their own locker rather than sharing (this was a big deal for our child).

If your child is a weak writer, wouldn't it be better to have them in a good writing program?

Wasn't this idea already rejected recently?

No. They just put our three potential options for the 1300 HS seats for which they will be soliciting community feedback -- 1) new building added to Kenmore site for a comprehensive (ish) HS. 2) use education center site for a combination of 9th grade academy and IB expansion. Or 3) further expansion at Career Center with a neighborhood HS in addition to the Arlington Tech expansion that is already planned there.

Personally, I think the Kenmore option is the best.

"Neighborhood high school may not have the same programs and sports as Wakefield, Washington-Lee and Yorktown" - so who wants to be in that "neighborhood"?

Does somebody have a link to the map/zone for the new MS opening in 2019?

Trying to see whether my neighborhood will move there?

It hasn't been decided yet. That fight will happen next year.

Arl now has the plans and rendition of the new MS today. As I suspected, it doesn't sound like it will be opening by2019 as promised.

One kid went to Gunston MS in South Arlington and the other is still there (we live in North Arlington). We've been happy with it. They make an effort to get to know all of the kids, and the teachers have generally been good.

If you live in N. Arlington, why do your kids go to Gunston?

Might be the Spanish immersion program?

Yes. Our kids went to Key, and then Gunston.

We love Swanson. My daughter also has mild ADHD and has thrived there. The principal is very good and 99% of everyone is very supportive.

Where do you see that? The ArlNow article doesn't say that.
