When should we expect to get the letters regarding 4th grad HCG?

Seems they're running late again this year. Last year, the admit e-mail arrived Mon. 3/14. Our open house was one week later, on 3/21. People started receiving rejection letters that Tues./Wed., but the admit hard copy letters did not arrive until Thurs./Fri.

So if the process is similar to last year's, my guess is that e-mails will arrive a week before the open house--with hard copy letters to follow. They want families to have enough time to make arrangements to attend.

Unless they decide to postpone the open houses...

I called to ask if they will email as well as mail like last year but they are not answering (not surprising)

So last year people received rejection letters after the open house? That is lousy

No. E-mail admits were received one week before the open house, on a Monday; rejection/waitlist letters were received Tuesday/Wednesday, and hard copy acceptance letters were received at the end of the week. Everyone knew their status before the open house, unless there were problems with the mail of course.

This morning, Cold Spring's website showed that the HGC open house would be on Tuesday the 28th, but I just looked again and it no longer says that (it's not on the calendar at all). So I guess they might be moving everything a week later.

I, too, am waiting for a letter. I'm convinced we'll all be OK, no matter when the letters go out, and no matter how low MCPS prioritizes your anxious email inquiries. Chiiiiill.

It's a hard week, I know. Good luck, everyone!

Even a week doesn't seem like enough time to make arrangements to attend. DH and I both work and some days are tough to take off.

All I know is that last year it was exactly one week before.

There's really nothing magical about these open houses. They separate parents and children. Children get a 5th Grader led tour, and Q&A with some 5th Graders. Parents get to see the 4th Grade Teachers, and have a tour (including walk through of a 4th Grade class), presentation, and Q&A with the principal and teachers.

Decisions shouldn't rest on the open house, unless you are somehow concerned about the physical plant of the school building. Ask your contacts, instead.

I'm a teacher (home sick)and we got an email today with the following info:

Letters will be mailed directly home by March 24.

Open houses will be scheduled between April 3rd-5th.

Was this emailed to you because you have a 3rd grader who applied or because you teach at a school with a HGC? Just curious as we haven't received any email communication since the original acknowledgement that they received the application.

I really hate this waiting. And now this email wording makes it sound like we'll receive BY the 24th, rather than the MCPS website that says they are only mailing on the 24th.

I agree that that language is not the clearest, but I read it to say that letters will be mailed -- i.e., go out -- by the 24th. Mailing is the only thing they can control. They can't ensure that everyone will get the letter by the 24th.

The waiting sucks.

+1 This also happened with us. They seem to be a week later this year based on other comments. Been waiting too!
