Taking time off, can boss say no?

Op again. I have an update for everyone. My boss said no and I should go during spring break. Angry doesn't even describe my feelings right now.

Ouch, sorry OP. I see his side though. I imagine that vacations while school are in session are frowned upon. And if they can operate without you for a week while school is in session then he'll probably wonder why you're even there. So look at it as a good thing--you're too useful!

Yea I guess. I'm just frustrated that our policy doesn't say it isn't allowed, and to force me to vacation during an expensive break seems unfair. I purposely didn't choose that time as I have a wedding to go to and $$ reasons. I asked my family to reschedule during that time and they said no. Now we have passports and nowhere to go.

You're not in the classroom? Then I can't imagine a business reason to say 'no'. My policy as a leader is to approve all vacation, especially when given plenty of notice. I had someone request leave for late June today. Took me 5 minutes to approve. If everyone is respectful of the team and the mission, then it all seems to work out. Questioning or refusing without really good justification, causes problems that can linger for years. Not worth it.

Yeah, that's crap. You shouldn't be relegated to Winter Break, Spring Break and Summer Break. Not everything in life coincides with your county's breaks. Short-sighted manager.

I worry that I will have a lot of resentment towards my boss for making me cancel a trip I was really looking forward to. No I'm not in a classroom, but apparently I am most definitely needed every single day. I was the supervisor at my last job and even if a person's loss hurt the team for a bit I would usually approve the leave because everyone needs a break.
