Obamas now DC residents. They've joined those of us who really have taxation without representation

A better proposal, would be anyone who lives in DC should no longer have to pay federal taxes. We don't vote - why should we have to pay into the system.

I would love to see DC, Arlington, Alexandra, Fairfax, Montgomery and Prince Georges become a state - Loudoun could come too if they pushed. The Republicans would like it because then they would get MD and VA Senators back. There would be an adequate mix of haves and have nots. There wouldn't be the problem of the poverty that used to be in Southeast moving to a completely different jurisdiction of PG. We could fully fund Metro and make it a superior system. We wouldn't have to deal with Annapolis and Richmond anymore and the Discritct wouldn't have to deal with Congressional oversight anymore.

I know it is not really politically feasible, but it is what I would do if I were in charge.

When I talk to people outside of the DC Metro area, they are surprised. (Doesn't say much of our education system). Kasitch basically admitted to the Washington Post Editorial board that Republicans didn't support DC statehood rights because they don't like the way DC votes. We finally have a high profile resident who can raise public awareness and the hypocrisy of the Right on this issue. Think he'll speak up and out on it? It would be nice if DC could balance out Wyoming.

Just join Maryland and be done with it. DC statehood is never happening.

I though liberals want everyone to pay their "fair share"?

Sounds like you want DC to be the tax haven for the wealthy.

When does Cheeto start to pay his fair share?

Great idea, but I'd qualify it. Anyone who is NOT a fed and lives in DC pays no federal income tax.

Agree, I have been saying this for years - either give us representation in the House and Senate or have us forgo paying federal taxes. Can't have it both ways. Taxation Without Representation was the original Tea Party that led to the Revolution. Anyone who doesn't understand that doesn't understand history and patriotism.

We do want everyone to pay his or her fair share. And our fair share is zero, since we are afforded zero Congressional representation yet are subjected to the whims of that pig-faced waste of oxygen from Utah and his equally scummy colleagues. NP.

In charge of what? This would have to be approved by voters in DC, MD and VA and require a constitutional amendment.

Anonymous wrote:I have a hypothetical question for you. In exchange for DC Statehood, would you be willing to allow Nebraska to split into East Nebraska and West Nebraska?

If the reason that you want statehood is so that you have national representation in the Senate and House (and not just more Democratic representation), and the reason conservatives oppose it is because it would give the Left two extra U.S. Senators, then this plan should satisfy both sides.

That's a creative, sensible proposal.

Is Nebraska interested in splitting? What about other states that might want to split? Like Va.

Please split VA! I am so over dealing with ROVA. The legislature depends on our money, but has no interest in us besides that. And it's an interesting solution. Right now, NOVA is turning VA blue, with 2 D Senators. It NOVA split, ROVA would likely elect 2 R, and we can keep Warner and Kaine. Let's do that. Please.

DC could have a flat tax with the first 50k or whatever exempted.

Why should DC pay taxes at all? Puerto Rican's don't pay federal taxes. And why would the remedy be to give another red state more votes? You shouldn't have to worry about balancing red and blue, it should be what is fair and just.

You'd keep Warner because he lives here, but Kaine lives in Richmond. Maryland would keep Van Hollen but not Cardin since he lives in Baltimore.

As far as anyone knows, he does pay his fair share.

Hate the game, not the player.
