Kerry - there's something I really like about this name. Does it make you wonder if it's a girl?

I work for a male Kerry. I wonder if it's the same one.

How do you say them differently? They are the same .

Kerry rhymes with merry (men), while Carrie rhymes with marry (man). Its the difference between men and man.

I think this is an East Coast thing. I grew up on the West Coast and we don't differentiate between Kerry and Carrie. Both are pronounced like Kerry.

I'm east coast here. Maybe Boston or New Yorkers with accents pronounce those differently? Most do not.

I'm from NY -- they're all different. And the "t" in often is not pronounced ...

I'm from NY like a PP and I'm stunned that people think it's the same sound. If I say: Larry ate a berry..... Completely different sounds.

OP, how about Keri? Will never be confused for a male.

I'm Kerry and a woman. A couple of my grandparents are from Kerry Ireland, so it was a bit of an homage. I love it.

When I'm communicating with someone via email, I'd say about 33% of the time they think they're dealing with a man. People will meet me and say, "You look nothing like I pictured. You're a woman."

I think it's a unisex name, but my first assumption would be girl (ie, Kerry Washington).

Also, I'm from the Midwest and pronounce Kerry like merry, Carrie like marry.

Cary Agos on The Good Wife. I'd spell the name Cary or Carey for a make. I know several Kerrys who are female.

I know a Kerry, a Kerri and a Keri. All girls. Also all in their 30's

Oddly, I prefer the Keri spelling. Never thought I would say that, but somehow it seems prettier.

To me at least, Keri seems a bit like Tiffani, while Kerry is more like modern Irish, without trying too hard to get Celtic spelling.

+1 I dislike girl names that end in i - feels flighty.

Unless told otherwise, I would absolutely assume that Kerry was a girl--especially if I "heard" the name (vs. read the name.)

FWIW, I grew up with many girls named "Kerri." I was born in 1975 and this was in Massachusetts in a town where almost everyone had an Irish, Italian, or Polish last name.

Carrie is not a different spelling of Kerry. They are completely different names and pronounced different.

I used to always think of Kerry as a girl's name, but now the only Kerry I know is my brother-in-law (and he spells it exactly like that).

I'd think girl, but I know 2 male Kerrys and 2 female.

I think now that Kerry Washington is so famous most people associate it with her. I do have to spell my name all the time since there are so many different ways of spelling it, but that doesn't bother me, and I can handle seeing Carrie on my starbucks cup.

Kerry Washington didn't come to mind. John Kerry did.
