In pool?

It's nice to hear that the classes are inclusive. If my child were to be accepted, I would be uncomfortable with a class that wasn't diverse.

It doesn't matter because they are mailing out the pool letters starting today. You'll soon find out. Good luck!

Not only a troll but one who is unnecessarily mean. Would that poster approve of her child doing this to another kid?

Not a troll but quoting FCPS website, they will start sending out pool letters and the central committee will begin meeting on Dec 1st. Intent was to inform. First poster asked why would you put credence to uninformed opinions. Why indeed. Geesh, stop being so thin skinned.

You are referring to the Fall screening, for students starting in a Center in January. This is not the main group of students screened in 2nd grade, who follow the Spring screening schedule.

^should say students starting in February, not January

We moved DD into Fairfax this year as a second grader so she just took the NNAT in November. Does anyone know when we will get the results?

Just guessing -- maybe January? I would think results would get to you just before or right at the deadline for referrals.

We were told the scores may not come back prior to the parent referral deadline.

Anyway, obviously still waiting on CogAT. AART wants parents to fill out referral and questionnaire no matter what. I completed that and I am submitting soon. I think this is the right decision for my child. Does it really matter what I put on my forms? What is weighed most heavily? Ability scores? Teacher input? Work samples? I disliked filling out the form because I feel like it's unnecessary to brag so much about your kids. Of course I think she's smart and thoughtful and creative. And her teacher thinks she needs the level of differentiation provided by the program. I'm so intimidated by it all. Someone please be reassuring. I don't care about TJ and Ivy League schools and all that. I want happy and healthy kids who work hard.

My DC is in 3rd grade AAP. I'd say he/she is in. The Cogat has some similar parts to the NNAT and my DC scored almost the same in both (over 140), so there's a very good chance his/hers cogat score will be over 132. Last year we got the cogat score a couple of days before the deadline, so we just submitted the parent form to be on the safe side. The school's samples were great - much better than what we could find at home. Scores over 140 are not that common.

From what I understand (having been on these boards awhile as I have 2 in AAP and went through the process two different times), the CogAT is weighted much heavier than the NNAT. If you search the posts that lists the scores and stats of admitted kids, it is MUCH more often that a kid with a high CogAt but low NNAT gets in than vice versa. Therefore, if your child has a mediocre CogAT, the file becomes much more borderline and far more dependent on the GBRS. If the CogAT is high, the child is almost definitely in.

The NNAT is perceived as easier to jack the score up with cheating.

How do you think a 1st grader cheats while teacher administers this test?
