The electoral college was made for such a time like this , unfortunately I think this would also probably be the worst time for them to exercise that power.

It's ironic to me that at the very same time all the checks & balances put in place to keep us now have the possibility to lead to our undoing.

No. Technically, we did not vote for President. What we voted on was whether to elect Republican or Democratic electors to cast electoral votes for our state/DC. The Trump electors were selected by the state Republican Party. The Clinton electors were selected by the state Democratic Party. They are going to vote for their party's nominee except one asshole elector in Washington state who is expected to cast his vote for Bernie Sandees.

And this is a moot discussion as the results of the electoral college have to essentially be approved by Congress. A Republican Congress is not going to approve the results of the electoral college if the electors decide to do their own thing.

The point of electors switching is that no candidate gets 270 votes. Then the decision MUST go to the House of Representatives for their vote and resolution. Ideally, enough Democratic and centrist Republicans in House could form a coalition to elect a moderate Republican for President.

It's definitely a hail mary pass, but the Cubs won the World Series. Anything is possible in 2016!
