Yes, but aren't some of the Silver Spring kids practically as close? It's all one school district and one county, so no one should have "dibs" on a certain school just because their town shares a name with another town.

No, we can safely walk to the new school but cannot safely walk to Newport Mills without crossing Conn. Ave. We also don't have a lot of sidewalks to walk to Newport Mills, vs. we do to walk to the new school. No one in Kensington is going to the new school that is built in our community. We will have to deal with all the traffic and noise for something that has no benefit to our kids.

Newport mill is way under capacity, Westland is bursting at the seams. Is it that difficult for you to understand this was begun to address a specific need after which various sites were looked at and chosen.

I think you're reading this decision wrong. How could you possibly be within walking distance of the new school but have kids who go to Somerset, Bethesda, or Westbrook Elem.?

The new school is in Kensington. Kensington kids are not eligible to go to that school. So, no those kids from the schools you mentioned could not walk there, but ours could. They should have put the school in those kids community who will attend there.

It is just as well, in a few years you will be ecstatic that your kids get to go to Westland and not the new middle school.

Is the new school located within the K-P elem boundary?

No. the new school is in Rock Creek Hills. East side of Ct Ave at Saul. KP goes to North Bethesda/WJ.

I live in Kensington within walking distance of the new school and my kids will go there based on option 7. There are many of us in Kensington zoned for RHPS/NCC who will go to the new school.

How could her kids possibly go to Westland if they are not in BCC boundary and even the kids close to her that are in the BCC boundary will go to the new MS and not Westland?!?!

Also, the new school is not in the town of Kensington although it is in the zip code.

Imagine a kid living in Town of Kensington (zoned WJ) attending RCF immersion. Her neighbors may go to new MS in bounds. Their child will go to Westland, or transfer to home school.

This isn't a guessing game but the post I quoted clearly states in walking distance to the new school but go to somerset, Bethesda or westbrook. Just in case you don't have a clue the immersion program is at RCF. So if the kid goes to either of those 3 schools They are not in immersion.

The neighborhood around new MS is "south Kensington"

The BCC middle school is clearly in Kensington, even the BOE recognizes this fact as stated in their report.

There are different sections of Kensington to include a town. It is in the BCC attending southern part of the area but not the town.

just like kids who live East of Connecticut are not in the Town of Chevy Chase, they are Sect 3 and Sec 5 and east of Brookville is Martin's Addition and South of the CC county club is the Village of ChCh.

We are all CHCH and yet we are not. Did you know that at different times kids living in ChCh have gone to different elementaries and middle schools? Some kids go to Sometset. Some kids went to Rollingwood. Some kids went to Leland MS and others went to Western MS. It sometimes happens that a whole community doesn't get to go to school together.

Kensington and Silver Spring are very large areas composed of different sub-neighborhoods.

Why the semantics? The school is in Kensington.

There are always people who live close to a school who aren't zoned for it-- it's almost mathematically impossible to send everyone to the closest school. I know families a couple blocks from Westland that go to Pyle. Complaining about that at this point is beside the point.
