Elementary school for moderate functioning autism

Do you guys know of any good elementary schools for Reston or Ashburn. Seems the Mclean area may be too pricey for me. Looking for a school that's dedicated to keeping our children on track.

Brooke grove es also has a really good learning center

Don't go to Montgomery county. You'll get less services for same profile than in Fairfax, and maryland taxes are higher than in VA.

This is a very old thread - all of the info up until this post and the two prior are from 2016. Burning Tree used to be great but administration and special educators changed and it has experienced some growing pains.

Anonymous wrote:Very good tips for the IEP thank you I will try to meet the magic number of 15+ hours. Right now it says dedicated resource room. Which basically means nothing. He is supposed to be in Gen Ed but they cant manage to get him over there because of low staffing and they don't care about grade level here either..ITS A NIGHTMERE! I'm not sure how my IEP should read though, they don't want him in Gen Ed or an inclusive room but somewhere in between. Suggestions? Should it read a learning center atmosphere with 70% Gen Ed? plus 15 hours of services? Thank you again for that comment about the burning tree, these comments are priceless!

OP, no one can answer your question about what your child's IEP should look like because it should be based on his individual needs. Suggest you contact an attorney or advocate in your area to work on his current IEP to ensure it adequately meets needs. The new receiving school division in MD/DC/VA will need to basically give you the same services as the old IEP until a new IEP is developed. Parental consent rights vary based on the jurisdiction. In VA, schools cannot implement a new IEP with different services from your old one until/unless you consent.
