But rec soccer is more like Girl Scouts or Boy Scouts, where parent volunteers are required to make the programs run. I understand that not everyone can step up and volunteer, but someone has to. |

At this point, I'm hoping OP is a war widow -- not because I wish any ill on her, but just so people taunting her over her possible unmarried status will feel like the shitheads they are. |
You aren't wrong OP. When signing your child up for an activity, it's not unreasonable to expect there to be an activity leader unless you are explicitly told otherwise in the beginning. |

$60 Rec league has parent coaches, i.e. People who are unpaid. Our $80 Rec league had parent coaches who asked for coaching help, so I volunteered. Someone has to do it for these things to work. In our county, if you want pro coaches, it costs a lot more - $1000 for developmental (which still needs some parent coaches) or $2500 for travel.
Sounds like you missed one game because of your schedule- not their fault. Games have to get cancelled when the weather is bad, otherwise the fields get torn up and other games can't happen. Sounds like your coach had a conflict- someone else should have stepped up. This coach is an unpaid volunteer- unless you are willing to volunteer, either accept it or pay to join a league with pro coaches. |
| OP. In general, it is not the job of the coach to send weather cancelation notices. You sign up for the alerts, or you call the county number. |
I'm willing to bet if OP told us which league it is and we went to the website, we'd find that information in the program description. We're all adults, there's a limit to how much hand-holding we should expect. |
Oh it's ridiculous the amount of hand holding these grown adults require. They want everything for free and put minimum effort towards doing anything on their own. Even checking their email is a difficult task for them. Then you ask people to show up 10 minutes prior to the game or at least on time and they come strolling in 10 minutes after the start of the game and are upset that their kid didn't go in right away. Step-up and help out, it was only for 1 day/1 hour. Most rec leagues require volunteers and for $60 you got a really good deal. If you couldn't then another parent should have stepped up. What the club you are with should have done differently was stepped up with someone else from their organization if none of the parents could. At least change the time so that someone from the organization could do it. It seems like you have been to multiple training/games so at this point a refund is no longer available. Maybe provide constructive feedback to the club to improve their operations. Work with them in some capacity to improve if you can't do it on the field. You could even get a discounted rate. |
| 15:24 on the first page and yes I coached my son's U8 one season when no one else volunteered. |
