Why are young American women considered floozies overseas?

The American girls in Europe seem to have more skin on show. Tiny shorts etc. Also, i would tend to agree with the excessive drinking. They also do not blend in particularly well so perhaps it is more an issue of standing out from the crowd and drawing unwanted attention? (Brits are similar)

I would say though, if a girl is well dressed and doesn't get wasted, she will not be unduly hassled in Europe.

I think it's about Americans being open, friendly, independent, revolutionary, and free, and whatever image our movies and television have been sending to the world about American women over the years.

I lived in Europe throughout my teens, and this was 40 years ago--American women had the reputation of being sexually available even then.

American living in France. There's a much more intricate social system and hierarchy here than in the US. Perhaps women here are open with their partners, but the French are quite reserved and distant until an acquaintanceship is made - perhaps similar is true of other European cultures. You talk to an American for five minutes and you have a "friend." American women talk and flirt openly with men - European women, not so much. Things are more divided by gender here, and people are slower to intimacy (not just sex, but closeness). It's just a different culture, and I could see why men here would assume American women are "slutty."

This! American girls have convinced themselves that being, promiscuous and flaunting themselves is somehow an expression of feminism. In fact, it's the opposite. Respect yourselves, ladies, and you'll get more respect. Amanda Knox is the perfect example of an ugly American "good time girl" who perpetuates stereotypes.

Very true. I was a virgin still but white american bf cheated and got drunk with 2 white american girls the first night they met. When i told him he was disgusting and him gross for wanting a relationship with such girls he said it was the norm. I lost total respect for him.

Well, I know how my single friends behave when they go overseas. They go drinking every night, drink at lunch and occasionally have fun flings with locals or other tourists. i assume a lot of people do the same.

I'm sorry, I just can't get over someone using the word "floozy" in 2016

You must be right- that sounds pretty controlled and rigorously scientific.

This whole thread is based on speculation not science

Isn't it kind of a (desperate) male fantasy that women from some other country than their own (where they can't get laid) are easy and ready to throw themselves at them. When I lived in Shanghai in the late 90s the general Chinese attitude towards American women was that they were "very open" aka, slutty. Ask any American guy in Shanghai what he thought of Chinese women and he'd probably say totally easy and that he was screwing left and right. The Japanese guys I knew felt that both American and Chinese women were easy and waiting to throw themselves at them. If so then why were were all drinking together rather most nights?

I suspect it was largely fantasy no matter which angle you come from.

In Germany, all the porn channels/phone lines used "Jenny" as the sluts name.

Very American. As a Jenny, I was appalled.

But nobody binge drinks like college American men and women. It's very distasteful to be that drunk in these places.

Europeans (Spaniard, Italians) are given wine with dinner at a young age, they have a different respect and knowledge of alcohol.

I loved being a teenager in Europe many years ago. As a 14-year-old, I could sit with adults in a cafe and have a glass of wine and chat. As long as I handled myself in a mature way and didn't drink too much or get silly, I was welcome. It was wonderful for a kid like me.
