I have a friend named Abbey - and her name is Not Abigail.
My DD's name is Molly and I am curious what that could be short for? A pp poster mentioned that former nicknames like Lucy and or Molly are more common these days. I hadn't realized it ever was only a nickname. We call my DS Will and my DH actually wanted Will on his birth certificate, but I argued for William only because I figure that no matter how much we call him Will everyone will always assume his name is William (teachers, co-workers) so why not just put it on the Birth Certificate anyway...... |
| Molly is a nick name for Mary. I think it's a nice name in its own right, though. I'm much more fond of nick names as given names for girls. Not a big fan of them for boys. Would never name my son Billy instead of William, for example. |
In 2009, maybe for the first time, Molly was used more often as a first name than Mary! (#92 versus #102) |
| Thanks for the update on Molly. I LOVE Molly and am not at all a fan of Mary (plus we are Jewish - so I don't think Mary would ever have be an option). Funny that you also mentioned Billy as we went with Will as a nickname for our DS named Willam and although I think Billy is making a comeback/ can be cute - it just wasn't for us. |
