Any Parkland MS Magnet parents? Wondering if we should apply?

I'm glad your kids found their people at TPMS. But I'm wondering how you're sure that W middle schools are full of angry creatures who do not like when somebody is different and would therefore not tolerate and accept 2e kids. After all, you haven't had students attending any of those W middle schools. Your post reads as fearmongering.

Sorry, but I do have another "regular" kid who is in W middle school, so I can compare.

Great. But do you have students at each of the W middle schools?

Of course not. But can you sign up to a particular school if your child does not leave there? Nope.

If there is some magic Middle School in MCPS, with caring Middle Schoolers (and that is mean age among both boys and girls) that accepts out of bound 2e kids (who are quirky, weird and often do not behave good), I would like to know where.

By the way 2e kids are mean at that age too, no exceptions. And they too cannot control themselves. And they too provoke others for bad behavior. So do not take me wrong...

However, if you have big number of such strange weird kids, then everyone gets used to them (TPMS is one such place where every other kid is weird in some way and teachers know how to work with them). On the other hand if you have 2-3 kids like these in class of 100. Well guess what? Everyone picks on them. Sometimes even teachers...

To the poster who wrote this post: I need some help from you! DS is 2e and currently at an HGC. Our hope is that he gets into the TPMS but it is so competitive I don't know what his chances are. He's found his social group at the HGC. If he does not get into TPMS he will be going back to his W cluster home school for middle school and I really don't want that. Curious what private school you would recommend and/or any advice on the application process for TPMS and if you think it is worth applying to the Eastern magnet as an option (he actually does well in the humanities but is more interested in the math and science). I wish there were more options for him...

Different PP: I do know a family of a 2e boy at Eastern and they have been happier with the services there than they were with a different child at TPMS. We're at TPMS and it is working for our child (with some effort from me working with school counselor), who sounds similar to yours -- strong in both but more interested in math/sci. It doesn't hurt to apply to both and see what happens. I'm not really sure how they select the Eastern cohort, btw. TPMS is very test based. My DS was above accepted on 2 of 3 on the test with 1 pt below median on writing due to lack of time and he was completely rejected. His scores were actually higher than friend who got in. So, you really never know how things will play out until acceptances/rejections come in.
