What bug bites and leaves big itchy welts like a mosquito?

I googled various things but didn't come up with anything.

Tick bite?

If the huge welts are on a child, it could be mosquito bites. Some kids have a strong reaction until they're about 7 or 8.

No idea. I had what I thought was a mutant mosquito bite a year ago but am still not sure what it was. It had similar size of redness to it but the actual bump was much larger.

It took three weeks to completely disappear and left a tiny lump.

Mine was on my calf and I too was wearing long pants when it happened.

Hope this resolves for you soon. If you are using calamine lotion on it, try keeping it in the fridge. Feels nice and cool going on.

Probably some sort of spider.

flea bites are tiny, teeny weeny and very itchy

whoever keeps writing "fleas" should know that.

Bed bugs come to mind. My husband and I were bitten by some at a hotel in Europe. They looked like mosquito bites and itched like them too. Do you have more than one bite, and are they in a line?

Not bed bugs. They don't go under clothes. They bite on arms and legs that are not covered. These are likely chiggers. Very common around here in the summer. They crawl up under clothes and get in areas like waistbands, under bras, around groin area. Big red welts. Not bites. It is your reaction to their saliva. They itch a lot. My dermatologist told me all this. Put hydrocortisone cream on them several times a day and that will make them go away faster.

Chiggers. The worst, sorry. Lots of clear nail polish on bite helps a little.
