Age 70 when you might break a hip |
My 13 year old daughter wanted a loft bed when she was 7, when we moved into our new house. I said no, because I thought she'd outgrow it quickly. Now she is showing interest in it again, because her room is very small, but I am worried that she will outgrow it. She is in 8th grade and is about 5 feet 2 inches. She has a twin bed currently. Also I think it's worth mentioning that my daughter is what is considered 'cool' in her school, so she's not a nerdy kid, just smart. I need others' opinions because I don't want to disappoint her or waste money. |
Yeah, when you are old enough to live with a partner. Through college and early 20's, maybe even mid 20's it's just fine. |
You can get kid loft beds or teen / adult loft beds. I would get a teen / adult one at this point.

My 13 year old has a mid-height loft bed (tall enough for drawers/bookcase underneath but not for a desk. His room is small and the bed is under a window with a great view into the woods. I’ve asked him if he wants to switch to a bigger bed/room but so far he says no. If the bed was so high it was hard to get into or sit up in (like my college loft and most bunk beds) I don’t think he’d still want it. |
We got our daughter a loft bed two years ago, when she was 11. She was happy with it for a while, but just yesterday (age 13) she told us she was sick of climbing in and out of bed and wants to go back to a regular bed. |
Colleges we visited had them. |
my daughter is 15. and she wants a loft bed she loves it so much, she’s had it since she was like 9 and still adores it even with all her “preppy” and cool stuff she still likes it. i recommend |
I bought a loft bed bunk bed when my oldest was 3, bookshelf & drawers on one side, desk on the other. The bottom bunk slid in perpendicular to the top bed.
It became my youngest's when they moved out of their crib and oldest got my old queen. It worked good - oldest dd liked sharing her queen with friends sleeping over, and when youngest ds had friends over it worked good for them to each have a bed. We just sold it - ds is almost 15. He was getting to big to be comfortable in it, and it felt too cumbersome in his room (instead of cool like a fort). If I did it again, I wouldn't bother with the desk side. He preferred a bigger stand alone more open desk a few years ago and then had both. I think a loft bed that has a couch underneath (that folds out into a double bed) would be a good choice if I bought one for teens. It is pretty cool tlfor teens to have a couch in there room. Now, both my kids have queens which they like. Dd will still sleep 3 kids in hers lol. |
