Can I call 911 if my husband insists on cutting down a tall tree all by himself?

You can bring in the law if you are in DC. It's illegal to cut down large trees, even on your own property if they're above a certain diameter, which I guess a 40 footer would be. Not sure of other jurisdictions.

OP here.

My question actually was - will police dissuade him from cutting the tree? Would they talk him out of it?

Lol. Tell him to wait until you take out a $1 mil life insurance policy.

Doing something with the wood is the least of the problem here

He's your husband, not your child. Start treating him accordingly.

OP here.

Phew.

I took all this time persuading him NOT to cut the damn thing. The crown could have fallen on the neighbor's house or our house, or the garage in between. His system was indeed very ingenious, but he simply lacked the experience and I didn't know what criteria he might have missed or which one he had considered but hadn't weighed properly.
We can apply physics to tree-cutting as well as the next person, but we are not tree-cutters.

And. My husband is crazy for even considering doing this by himself. He is also crazy for taking so long to be persuaded. I know I have a risk-taking, overly-optimistic idiot on my hands. Yeah me

No, but you should call a good shrink for him.

Is your DH black? If so, the cops are a bigger threat than the 40 ft tree. No 911

If you need police to "talk down" your husband from making some He Man Move with a chainsaw, you do have bigger problems. Hide the chainsaw in the car, drive off to a local Starbucks and call tree experts.

I hired my 24 yr old son to cut down four trees in my yard. He's doing it all by himself. What's wrong with your husband?

Ha! Didn't think this thread would survive the day.

OP here.

What's wrong is that this is a 40 ft tree right next to a valued structure. There are two houses in the felling zone.
What's wrong is that my husband has already fallen out a much smaller tree when cutting a large branch, and already damaged a structure recently when attempting to cut down another.

Oh, so you're saying now that he does, in fact, have experience? ( )

You are right - he has a stellar record of failures

Is this a parody thread of life in DC? You don't need a phd in tree cutting to cut down a tree without hurting yourself. Christ.
