Inexpensive but good places to eat out?

Yes, I know. Such is life.

You have to familiarize yourself with the ethnic hole in the wall places. I don't think most of DCUM's posters are familiar with or comfortable with going to places like that. But that's where you find good, inexpensive, kid-friendly.

Mosaic has a Cava, no?

It does, but more of their Chipolte type place vs the sit down tapas one in Arlington. It is delicious though. Moby Dick is also good.

Where are these magical places? And have you eaten there recently? I think you're remembering your childhood.

They're certainly not in the Northeast. Diner food anywhere north of here is awful and not cheap (until you get to Maine, where the food is great in the summer -- good veggies, berries and cheap lobster). Pizza maybe.

The only place I can think of like you describe is Austin.

And if I don't want ethnic food?

We eat at ethnic restaurants in Silver Spring, Rockville/Twinbrook, Wheaton, Takoma Park, College Park, etc. The food is authentic and a good value. When we get a car, we're going to venture to places we've heard about in Gaithersburg and Germantown.

All food is ethnic food! What you mean is you only want food brought to this country by white European immigrants.

And that's okay, too. We all have food preferences. I, for example, do not imagine ever developing a deep love of Ethiopian food.
