Do you take "Attendance" when your DC teacher misses school?

Anonymous
Teacher here who had to take about a week of leave in 2015 when my wife had a second trimester miscarriage. I also have a small child who gets sick, and sometimes I have to take days off of work to be with him. Some days I'm attending professional development or leading IB trainings. Sometimes I share with my students why I'm out, sometimes I don't because it's PERSONAL and they don't need to know.

Honestly, it's none of your business either unless you're concerned about the quality of the sub, in which case you should take it up with the school, school board, or county.

I also know the school tries to schedule as many in one day as they can. Substitutes come in for those days. Do you consider that an absence?

What you're doing is really odd and in no way correlates to how much your child learns.

No I only count the days when my DC says "my teacher wasn't here today" well I asked them how was their day at school today and if the teacher wasn't I asked them all day?? If they said yes, then yes , I mark her down as absent. If my kids miss school I wouldn't mark the teacher absent for that day even if i found out they had a sub.

OMG! This can't be real!

NP here: Once I noticed a pattern of my child's teacher not being there for the half day/professional development days I started asking my child about it, but I haven't actually done anything more than make a mental note of it. But there are lots of other issues with this teacher that are more concerning to me.

You sound crazy, OP.

Well, I hope once you have marked the teacher absent, you make an automated call to their home, informing their family members that they did not show up in school today. Like DS's MS does if I don't call an absence in soon enough in the AM.

Seriously OP-- back off. I'm sure the school administration is capable of enforcing its own teacher attendance policy without your help.

This can't be real. OP, you need a hobby, something, anything to fill your time, go sip a latte or join a yoga class. Teachers are parents/people just like the rest of us, if they have anything to attend to, they will use their leave and they should.

That's just nuts. What then is your threshold for too many "teacher absences"? What exactly will you do that? Call a meeting to chastise the teacher? Ask for doctor's notes?

Seriously OP you need a hobby.

My friend told me it was 10 days total in MoCo but that only 3 could be used as personal days, the other days are for sick days. Our child's teacher took off for a whole week. Maybe our principal is more lenient? Then what's the point of the Union? I guess it would not have bothered me but my child told me that one substitute yelled at the kids which the regular teacher never does and one of the substitutes couldn't operate the computer or the smart board. That sounds like missed instruction to me. I can see why OP is concerned. in general I don't take attendance but a week is noticeable.

Do you think she was on a cruise? My son's teacher was absent for a week - she was seriously ill.

And, if she was on a cruise? So what?

Anonymous wrote:I noticed that my DD Teacher misses school? She missed school 5 days this year. and My DS teacher missed school 9 days this year. My friend think is strange that I check how many times they misss school but I like making sure my kids are learning so I take attandance. do you do the same?

I'm confused how taking attendance makes sure your kids are learning. Are they practicing counting or data collection?

just making sure my kids are learning

It seems your education suffered an extrodinary amount of teacher absences.

What are you going to do with this information?

Maybe the teacher doesn't always tell the kids when she has meetings.

This is really bizarre.

My kids' teacher missed a week - she had the flu !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did not want her in class with the flu.
Are your co-workers taking your attendance, do they know all the details of your absences, could be any of a million reasons:
- you are sick
- u are in the hospital
- kid with a chronic illness
- sick/elderly parent
- spouse dies
- tree falls on your house
- house catches fire
- you break a limb
- your kid breaks a limb
- your spouse has a psychotic break
- your child has a psychotic break

ALL OF THE ABOVE ARE NONE OF YOUR **** BUSINESS
