Why does Trump do well with Catholics and Southerners but not in the Heartland and Mormon country?

I am from the south and the more racist my friends are, the more likely they support Trump. No matter what their income level. Remember, Cruz is Hispanic. And, my observations at my current job tell me that many people in the Northeast are equally as racist, although that doesn't get as much press as racist southerners. Most of the non urban areas in the Midwest are less diverse, and don't have as many races competing with each other for jobs, especially at the bottom of the job market.

This is spot on.

Trump does well in "diverse" states. Ironically, racism seems to correlate with diversity. Cruz does well in overwhelmingly white states.

I agree that the NE (and the rust belt) are as racist as the South. The difference is that racist southerners don't delude themselves about being "not racist." The most racist people I know are from NY and don't think of themselves as "racist" because they associate racism with southern hillbillies waving Confederate flags.

Sure ...this is not even close to what is happening. I can't believe how uninformed you people are. Try getting out once in awhile.

Trump-- mean, boastful, vulgar.

I was watching a voter panel on CNN this morning. A lady from a Midwestern state used the word "harmony" to describe what Lutherans preach. She is anti-Trump. Are there a lot of Lutherans (obviously Mormons) live in that part of the country? And Trump's personality just rubbed them the wrong way?
