Does your school send your sports teams to Florida for spring break?

With a two-week vacation for break, I really don't mind my son attending baseball practice in FL. The boys really want to get away. I admit, I wasn't aware of the additional cost. I do know our Big3 provides FA for those in need.

That is true. This is for a 20K school - school issues iPad, but books on it are on you. Maybe $150. Usual field trip fees - $25 every now and then. Other costs are:

- Cafeteria (pricey - $10 for lunch easy)
- Transportation (Dedicated bus service)
- Uniforms (inexpensive actually) - not the quality clothes I'd buy otherwise, but hey they are all wearing the same thing, and I think it nets out cheaper
- Mission trips
- Sport practice uniforms
- Sports trips

Probably some stuff I'm missing - maybe 3K total on top of the 20K. Seems like I write a check at least every other week of something.

One should note that DC public spends well over $20k a kid per year. Factoring in phantom students, the spend is as much per kid as the most expensive privates. The privates have sticker prices well higher, but that the actual spending is not much more factoring in full fair subsidizing FA. The privates are not cheap, but if DC was competent, they have the dollars to do the same. 30 kids a class times 20k is 600k a class. Teacher gets 120. Where is the rest spent? Certainly not on the kids.

So sad but true pp. I think DC Publics should disband with all of the money they waste and their output is poor and give the money to the kids to go where they want.
