"Even" The "good" ivy league early acceptance kids are smoking pot? *GASP*

Give your kid the facts -- the REAL facts, not scaremongering. Then hope for the best.

Good kids, by definition, do not smoke pot. I don't care where they go to school or how smart their parents think they are.

sadly they do. even high achievers may imbibe. I'd have a hard time believing high achievers abuse it, given that pot is not exactly a substance that promotes productivity. some kids have more IQ points to spare as well.

I know plenty of high achieving professional type A people (ranging from their 20s to 50s) who regularly smoke weed because it helps them unwind and be less anxious about their intense careers. Some of those people have been smoking since high school. So it wouldn't surprise me, given the intense pressure Harvard bound kids are under, that some of them would benefit from a joint.

This is exactly my point. High achiever DOES NOT EQUAL "good kids." "Good Kids" are those with the morals and sense to turn down pot. I don't care what their grades or supposed IQ is.

I stand by my original statement. Good Kids Do Not Smoke Pot.

There needs to be more dialog about the medicinal properties of pot, hence legalization, vs the fact what they are getting/seeing in HS could be anything from synthetic to real (with very high THC levels vs the 1% THC known in the 70's), and some mixed. The kids think anyone hawking pot is offering one "brand" that they hear about on the news, and hear about when cities are declaring victories as their states become legal places for marijuana. This is a real time problem, and the private v. public perception for our children is very dangerous.

Besides acid, it is reasonably easy for HSers to obtain ecstasy, cocaine, and heroin. Not to mention amphetamines that can be crushed and snorted.

Just keep it away from your kids. The biggest way is to focus them on their future and teach them to look critically at stoners.

Ah but what about those pesky smokers who are accomplished, ambitious, and also know how to relax and have fun in moderation. They're out there.

Not all marijuana users are slow goofballs.

No break given. Having morals means recognizing and acting upon the difference between right and wrong. It is wrong to purposefully, willfully and recklessly destroy ones future, mind, body and other God-given gifts. Smoking pot does that. Ergo, smoking pot = bad morals.

Well, that's certainly an opinion based on a lot of wrong assumptions.

Pot does not destroy the futures, minds, and bodies of most people who try it. 44% of Americans have tried it.

Ha! And you think noting that 44% of Americans trying/ smoking pot means that "all is well" with the American public, and we're all just fine? Let's see... 70% of Americans are obese or overweight. I would opine based on random observation that an equal percentage is simply stupid.

So by your standards, anyone who has a kid who has tried pot, doesn't have a good kid? Get over yourself. Seriously, you need to get off your high horse, no pun intended. And I feel sorry for your kids.

Besides school, where and when is this pot smoking happening? If it's at kids' houses where the hell
Are the parents?

And--how does this go on at school with security cameras, smoke detectors and the rest? Lay it out for me so I can make sure and reduce the opportunities for my kid. I, for one, don't think it's ok or inevitable that teenagers do drugs.

Lots of people smoke in cars. Parked or moving. "Burn cruise". People also smoke in parks, or just walking around. It's not hard to smoke a small joint while walking around - vaporizer pens make it even easier.
