My DD took it for about a year, starting in early high school. She said once she found the optimal dosage, it made a real difference in her ability to focus at school. And with a top-off dose of short-acting Adderall, she was able to actually participate in evening activities instead of crashing from the stress of getting through the day unmedicated. But she did find the dosage timing to be really finicky in the mornings.

But when her doctor subbed in Adderall XR during a shortage, she found it worked as well as—maybe even better than—the Vyvanse for focus, and the uptake was much smoother. She wasn’t overly jittery in the mornings, and if she was a bit off in the timing of the morning dose it wasn’t as critical.

More importantly, she gained back some of the weight she’d lost on the Vyvanse. Her appetite is still a bit odd because of sensory issues, but she’s able to eat some breakfast, and small meals and snacks throughout the day. With Vyvanse, she had to force herself to eat, and her variety was really limited.

So for mine, Vyvanse was fine but not perfect; but Adderall XR is much better.

Hi OP! I hope it’s all going smoothly so far. My 23 yo DD has been on it for about 18 months. She’s had no side effects. She used to take Concerta which worked better for her but insurance won’t allow her to have it even with a higher copay (the generic concerta is not good). She has tried many meds and Vyvanse is better than any of the other options available to her including Adderall. She definitely doesn’t get high from Vyvanse and there’s no addiction. It just allows her to function at work and at home.

My daughter has been taking it for 4 years...the one issue she has is if she misses a dose she gets a nose bleed daily for about a week. Other than that no issues. Our youngest also takes it and it makes her hands shaky and she has lost a considerable amount of weight. Both are teens

My son is much younger but Vyvanse made him very agitated. It’s so different for each kid.

My son is on a low dose of Ritalin.
