Newborn on a plane flight?

Anonymous
I took a 4 day old on cross country flight along with two other children. He is now 15 yes old and had no repercussions from the trip. Good lord, OP, use your common sense.

I flew with my 5 wk old dd to a family gathering and it was super easy. I held her and she slept, and I nursed her for takeoff and landing. At that age they are sleepy little bundles and are very easy to travel with.

I flew by myself from DC to Denver with a 7-week old after a c-section. I didn't buy a second seat. It was fine but it was my second kid so I wasn't as stressed about it.

That, plus the baby, will almost certainly mean you can not be fully contained in your own seat, you will be encroaching on other's space. That's really rude.

My 150 pounds + 12 pound newborn is neither "quite overweight" nor "encroaching on other's space." No more than the mouth-breathing 250-pound guy next to me.

Unless you are 5'10" or above, yes---150 is overweight. And if you are over 5'10"--likely you would be uncomfortable alone in an airline seat, never mind with a newborn on your lap.

You are an idiot.

And to add, I wouldn't dream of flying with a lap child of any size. But you are still an idiot.

+1

I am 5'6 and I am overweight at 200 pounds. I am not "encroaching on other's space" and I can "be fully contained in my own seat" thank you very much.
It's pounds, not kilograms. Heck, my DH is 250 pounds and and 6'4 and will not encroach on anyone's space but mine and that's mostly his knees and ellbows.

I would.

If you're nursing, it's pretty easy. Keep the baby in your arms. Rock, nurse, or give paci if s/he gets fussy.
