I'm all for honors courses in the main subjects... but is there a reason to take honors for the health course?

GPA boost, I would think.

To everyone who says that you have to register the minute it opens up (which appears to be at 5 pm on a day in March) or it fills up -- I looked at the link, and it says that you have to get the document signed by the counselor as well. So how does that work? Do you get the counselor's permission before that date or after?

Don't quote me because it's been a few years, but I *think* you register and sort of reserve your spot, and then have a certain amount of time to follow up with all the required material. Maybe someone who has done it more recently can confirm?

Where did you find evidence that BCC's summer Honors Health class accepts outside students? The class is being held at WJ due to construction at B-CC, not due to a spirit of inclusion. Many of the MCPS high schools in wealthier areas of the county offer their own summer academies as an alternative to MCPS summer school. Maybe someone should start a lawsuit? Is it really a level playing field if some students can take Honors Health or Honors Geometry over the summer and others can't? Btw, there are older threads on this topic.

This is the older thread, it was revived. That post about BCC was from last year.

Your child probably goes to a high school that offers its own summer academy. MCPS does not offer this option to everyone.

Foundations of Technology is a full year class. Health is one semester. I would not recommend taking both of these classes over the summer at the same time. The Health class isn't difficult, but it is extremely time consuming. I would not call taking the Tech class "something fun to do" over the summer. If your kid takes this during the summer, that is all they should do at the time. There won't be time for work, volunteering, swim team, whatever. Expect to work for a good 5 hours a day. It's not the same as the full year class offered in school.
