Wicca is definitely a religion, not a meditation. They believe that all male deities in the world are different faces of one God, and all female deities in the world are different faces of one Goddess, and this one God and one Goddess are the supreme divinity. It's pretty close to Hinduism that way.

As far as I'm aware, Wiccan spells are like ritual prayer.

I'm drawn to paganism but am not liberal and don't consider myself a feminist.

Your only option would likely be the self-identified "Aryan" followers of the Aesir (main Norse deity group, the gods of Asgard) who think being a modern Viking means you have to be a swastika-tattooed biker for Valhalla.

Yes, this. All religions are an attempt to define and know the Source. Many faces, one God.

My mother is queen of the locusts
When we went camping she used witchcraft to make the hill rise by 250 feet at night so no bears could climb up and we were safe

That's absolute horse shit. The whole point of paganism is finding a personal spiritual path. You don't have to be a radical liberal feminist to walk this path. And you most certainly don't have to consign yourself to fellowship with a pack of racist dicks just because you lean more conservative than most other pagans.

And for the record, it's only a small subset of assholes who equate the norse gods with white supremacy. It's like saying all Christians hate ____.

Not true. Not all all Norse pagans (Asatru) are white power jerks. Most Asatru aren't white power jerks.

The Asatru are one flavor of Reconstructionist Paganism. There are Celtic, Roman, Greek, Baltic and Slavic Reconstrutionist groups in the US. They are pretty traditional in their world views. Lots of room there for people who aren't liberal and don't consider themselves feminist. (Although if you oppose strong women in general, I don't know what to tell you.)

PP might also like the NeoDruids, although they tend a bit more towards the crunchy side than the Reconstructionist pagans.

Did you see the hill rise? Did you feel it -- like an elevator?

It's hard to imagine someone worship the Norse gods and not self-identify as feminist. I mean, have they met Freyja and her valkyries?

I admit I was surprised this was not bumped already.

What the hell do you think witches are? We're not spooks.

If you are Pagan or Wiccan, how did your families take it when you told them?
