What they shut Hillary's proposal down with was the GOP precursor to ObamaCare which would keep the private insurance industry intact with a requirement that every household buy health insurance. That was the GOP's platform for nearly 20 years, until Obama came along, then they suddenly abandoned it for no other reason other than that the Democrats signed on. The GOP has had zero coherent healthcare reform platform ever since.

Hundreds of thousands of people work for insurance companies and analysts believe private insurance would no longer be an option under Berniecare. But it's not a serious proposal anyway. It's an Overton window thing, just pushing the boundaries.
