The fastest way to get a passport??

We used Traveldocs.com

In addition to renewing my passport, I also needed a Chinese visa-- all within a few days.
I was figuring it would have taken me about 4 trips to DC- drop off passport, pick up passport, drop off new passport at Embassy and pick it up.
That would have been way too disruptive with my work schedule.
It was expensive but they got it all done.

Can someone help me navigate this? We have 3 passports that need to be renewed for a late march trip to a country not requiring visas and so far, we haven't been able to get through to a single post office that will answer the phone and they all say on the website you need an appointment (difficult if they do not answer the phone).
I know we could do the state department but we don't have proof we are traveling to a country needing a visa within the month so not sure they will let us do that.

Where did you renew it?

Different PP. Last year when we had to renew parents' expired passports and apply for new preschoolers' passports, we went to the East Columbia Library (near Cradlerock Elementary). They had Saturday hours. The wait was a little long, but we didn't expedite and they came pretty quickly (we renewed in mid-January for a late March cruise and we had them by mid-February).

Thanks. Did you make an appointment ahead of time, PP?
