KISSING YOUR CHILD ON THE LIPS

Anonymous
You are right. I shouldn't disturb such an enlightening post. So far, we've learned that some people think it's gross. And some people think it's a perfectly acceptable display of affection. Oh wait, we've also learned that someone does raspberries. I, for one, am shocked by these results. I am pleased that you have raised such a culturally significant issue. Please, let's hear more from others. I can't wait to see how many different ways people will find to say "that's gross" or ways to say it's how they do things. This is so awesome.

The OP is a familiar and frequent inflammatory poster. She is often on the nanny boards and writes in stanzas. She is an official DCUM Troll. If you see stanzas and questionable english skills, it's her.

I feel like an idiot. I didn't realize. I bit. My apologies for having anything to do with extending the life of this inane thread. I will try to be better at spotting the troll's posts in the future. PP, step in earlier though so I know sooner!

If you think it is gross because of germs to kiss your own kids on the lips, I'm just at a loss for words.

Hopefully your DH wont' bring herpes to the household.

Yup, hopefully he won't! Maybe I should never kiss him again, just in case. All kissing is gross anyway.

OMG, are you serious? You won't kiss because you are worried your child will think "it's okay all-around" and will plant smackaroos on strangers in the street? So what about hugs? Holding hands? Tickling? Do you avoid all those activities too in case your child starts grabbing strangers?

You can kiss on the lips or not, but this logic is seriously flawed. If you don't want them doing something with strangers, just teach them that.

You may be right, but you don't have to be nasty about it.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude. Apologies, I just found this reasoning extraordinarily silly.

But I won't continue this debate, as the troll must be nice and fat now...(from all the food)

Oh that's interesting.
Now, besides of disagreeing makes one a troll, also not having good language skills also makes one a troll.
Very very good and accurate way to classify someone.

Why is it silly? She's from a different culture. She's trying to get a feel for a lot of stuff we take for granted. My husband's been here 20 years and he still asks questions like this.

Your critical reading skills are poor. This particular troll in question can be identified by BOTH her style of writing in stanzas coupled with her poor/moderate English skills. There are plenty of articulate trolls who have excellent writing and though I might disagree with them, at least they are pleasant on the eyes and the delivery smooth. They are simply harder to identify because they do not write in stanza's. I would not mind it so much of the OP were poetic in her delivery, but we are not so lucky with this one.

I am in the camp where I think it is weird for people to think it is weird for a parent to kiss a child on the lips. No, I do not kiss my parents on the lips now, but I did as a child (good night, good bye, etc.). I kiss my daughter on the lips and it is affection and sometimes comedy, there is nothing weird about it.

That said, if you think it is weird, do not do it.

People are confused. When I see a parent kiss their kid on the lips, that is when I think it's gross. I only kiss my kids on the cheek.

OP wondered about it because she moved to the U.S. OP, some people kiss their kids on the lips, and some kiss them on the cheeks and not on the lips.

Nice summary...NOT!

I don't understand why people read certain threads if they aren't interested.

OK, so for clarification, I'm the OP and I'm not this Stanza Troll in question.
It really disturbs me how people feel offended when asked about their culture. It's a simple question - DO YOU DO IT OR NOT? AND WHY.
It's an anonymous forum, why do people have to get angry instead of just being honest and answer the question?
Sorry if I write in a funny way. I learned to go direct to the point. Writing it all in one line makes me dizzy and I think it's confusing. Just a particular preference.
Did you know that in other languages they write in UP-DOWN direction? RIGHT-LEFT in others?
Just because we learned to do something in one specific way it doesn't mean it's the only right way to do it.
I'm here trying to learn if the way I learned is the best or not. Thank you for all the warm hearts that answered me sincerely.
