well, that's what happens when you exclude women from membership....

to clarify, i don't think that excluding women is a good thing. in fact, i find it a sad commentary that male members aren't giving up their memberships in droves in protest of this ridiculously discriminatory policy

You better be careful: you would hate to wind up with undesirables. such as jews or arabs. Or Blacks. Better stick to the "restricted clubs".

God I hate this about our society.

We've had a few people offer to sponsor us at WGCC since we moved here a few years ago. We looked into it initially and there was a 5 year wait list. Not sure what it is now, but it wasn't as if we could just list some references and write a check. Unless that is the kind way of saying "thanks but no" to people who have sponsors but are still of questionable caliber. (I'm kidding re caliber. It makes me laugh to even type it.)

We live in the exurbs near a very expensive (but not at all exclusive) club, Trump. It costs $75k to join and over $1k/month in fees (for golf membership) and also has a quarterly food and beverage minimum.

I don't understand why people pay all this money so they can socialize only with other people willing to pay all this money? We know several people who belong and they are all friendly enough but not interested in actually socializing with people who don't belong to "the Club" (as they call it.)

My DH and I are educated and upper middle class, we just have no desire to spend this kind of money on something like that. We much prefer travel and hopefully early retirement. I wouldn't have anything against the club people except they seem to have something against us. Any "club people" out there care to explain it?

I'm a "club person" who posted 60 rounds of golf last year. I can't do that - or participate in inner club play- unless I belong to a country club. My kids can't play with us on weekends (easily) or have access to the course on a daily basis were we not members. That's why we belong. The friends we've made all share a common interest - golf. It is well worth the joining fee and the 5,000 or so we pay per month in the spring/summer/fall when we are using the club heavily between golf, swim team, Jr. golf, outings/tournaments and dinners/lunches/drinks at the club. While we have made many friends there we maintain a varied friend group outside of the club.

If you decide on Washington Golf, be patient, the waitlist is several years long.....

DH wants to look at Waahington Golf CC. Is it the same caliber of people as in the other two (i.e. is it just a matter of geography?) I don't know anyone who goes there but he thinks it's great. It may be, just trying to get a sense of the "rankings" as folks would see them.

I think if you join any club that is not. Ear you them that looks really odd. Choose a club near you not in another state for goodness sake!

I don't know. I think women should start their own country club. Of course they would probably try to scratch each other's eyes out at the finance meeting. It's amazing how different the sexes are.

Yeah right. Our women's golf team and ladies club play is better funded, better run, events are better attended, and we are in higher cups in WGAP play than the men are. As a minority we have to fight hard for equality on the golf course and it has bonded us together. Just this year did we get the right to have Saturday and Sunday (limited) tee times before 11:30.

Unfortunately there simply aren't enough players to support an all women's club. Because so many women work now they aren't available to play the GAP matches (5 matches, on weekdays). Otherwise, an all women's club sounds wonderful. No more having to suffer through bad behavior from men who don't actually know the rules of match or stroke play, drink too much on the course, or simply (and commonly) believe that they are better golfers than they are.

Sounds fantastic.

I think the fact that you bring race into "doctor, lawyer, real estate, tech, and political" actually says more about your worldview.

What club would you recommend for people looking for a "social" club who live in McLean?
