Country Clubs

We live in North Arlington and thinking of joining a club. Most people I know belong to Congressional or Chevy Chase CC. I know mostly political types and doctors' kids that go there. DH wants to look at Waahington Golf CC. Is it the same caliber of people as in the other two (i.e. is it just a matter of geography?) I don't know anyone who goes there but he thinks it's great. It may be, just trying to get a sense of the "rankings" as folks would see them.

I would focus on the one that's most convenient to your house rather than status. In the end, you want to use it!

"Caliber of people?" You can't be serious.

OP here - it is no secret different people go to different clubs. I am just trying to get a sense of what people think on this.

Trolling much? Given you live in VA how about finding a club near your house that you can use. People can smell social climbers from miles away.

This topic has been done. If you want to join a club, how about you do it for the amenities and convenience that club offers, rather than the perceived "caliber" of the other members.

It is an absolute pain to commute into Bethesda from Arlington. You really think you will make good use of the club? Go someplace convenient for you that you'll actually use on a regular basis

Thanks for the link. It's not that we're social climbers or terrible people. It's a lot of money to spend- so it's really not a terrible thing to ask people's opinions of who goes there since I know no one. Also - like it or not there is clearly a social component to joining a club or people would go to the fine free public golf and Rec centers (which we do go to). So thanks for your honest opinions on the social component. And the honest "nearness to home" opinions as well.

I guess I'm also asking if there is any appreciable sifference between Washington Golf CC, Congressional, and Chevy Chase?

Do you play golf? There are huge differences in the course. As an avid golfer the course I like best would be the club I would join. I would NEVER do the drive you are proposing. Our club is 3 miles from my house. The kids all do swim team and jr golf. Swim team is every morning M-f, meets are two weeknights a week. That means I am driving to and from the club at least four times a day several days a week in summer. Add junior golf to that and it can get crazy. Throw in a commute and you will come to hate the club.

I do poorly and DH does pretty well. Honestly, and just to be upfront, we are looking for other couples/families to be social with. All food point you raise. I guess I'm just asking if folks can help me figure out what Waahington Golf CC is like - again, since I know no one. Is it political? Tech? Government workers? Doctors/lawyers kids? Real estate? Old Italian Arlington? Newbies/wannabes? I just look to this board for honest info and opinions. Thanks
