Where to baby register? Multiple Stores?

Anonymous
I only registered at one store - Babies R Us - because most people I knew had easy access to it. I bought my nursery furniture and bedding from BBB.

I don't think you should put it on the invitations - your friend can just spread the word if anyone asks. Most people are savvy enough to look online or ask if they need ideas.

I disagree with whoever said baby registries are "ghetto" - I think they can be very helpful. That said, I have a major pet peeve about some of the stuff people register for. For example, please buy your own breast pump!!

I think it's fine to register for your bedding, bottles, bouncy seats, etc. Maybe a couple of larger items - up to $150-200 because sometimes groups of friends or people from work like to go in together on a gift.

I can't stand it when people register for specific outfits or books or toys - give me a break. If there's something like that you really want for your baby just get it yourself!!

But I think it makes sense to register for most baby stuff - presumably you've done some research and know what you want, what you think would work well for you and your family - no different than a bridal registry, really.

Maybe people dont want 6 copies of Goodnight Moon (which I received)? If its on your registry, you are less likely to get multiples of the same item.

Why is it wrong to register for a breast pump? This is a hugely expensive item and something that several people can chip in to help offset the cost. Those of you saying "buy your own" may be in a different financial position than others. The point of a baby shower is to "shower" mom and dad to be with things they NEED. I don't need 15 duck outfits but I sure do need a breast pump. FWIW, I personally did NOT register for this item because we have several couples showers and I didn't want to open this in front of my husband's grandpa. But we otherwise absolutely would have registered for it and I think it's fine to do so. I love to buy "necessities" when I attend showers because most people must want to buy the cutesy things, but since I've started prepping for baby now, I realize how much those necessities are appreciated. As others have mentioned, most people do want to buy cute little outfits and so on. But register for the things you need -- you just might get them and that's a bonus because most of the necessitites are the expensive things!

Oh my god - does someone hold a gun to your head and make you buy an expensive gift? People buy you things because they are happy for you and want to celebrate the birth of your child - if you don't want to buy them something then DON'T!

We get it that you think it's tacky -- can you come up with something else to say to explain your position? You're really not clever or funny -- just annoying and not at all helpful.

I registered for my breast pump not expecting anyone to buy it, but b/c I wanted the 10% off down the line. Ain't nothin' wrong with being thrifty! Tacky tacky tackily yours (and proud of it!), Anonymous.

Ditto. Four copies of "Guess How Much I Love You", three "Goodnight Moon", and three "Am I Your Mother?" Shoot, I wish I had registered for those. Most were signed and so couldn't be returned.

The whole point of registering is so people know what you want/need, and what's already been bought. A toy that comes highly recommended. An all-too-common book of which you only need one copy. Also, I used my registry as a shopping list so I knew what I still needed. I didn't really think anyone was going to buy the baby gates for me, but I didn't really have the mental energy to maintain multiple lists, so it all just went on the registry.
