I was curious about that one too.

I am the PP. We were best friends for about five months before our first date. We spoke for hours each day during those months. Those months of friendship were the best and the strangest thing ever. The more I spoke to him, the more I was overcome with the sense that I had met my perfect match. I didn't say that to him, because that just would have been weird. However, I found it so exciting to find another human being with which I felt so well matched. It was terrifying, too. I was really enjoying college and did NOT want to settle down. Neither of us mentioned our feelings for one another. We had our first official date at a coffee shop, where he told me he was certain we would get married during a specific month/year, and I agreed. We got a ring very shortly after. (The prospective wedding date he gave me was a couple of years away and it coincided with his graduation date.)

This is PP...we'd dated 2+ years before our engagement.

Also, I love the first date proposal story! DH and I were friends for a year before we started dating.
