No. New houses are more desirable and more livable, especially after one proceeds through months of all that is needed for a makeshift add on. But keep telling yourself that no one prefers a new house, by all means!

I think you're deliberately misunderstanding. If people can live in their house, spend 300K on an addition and be done in 6 months, they might prefer that to renting some place for a year or year and a half and paying 500K. Despite the re-sale question.
