Are you a california team? |
| DS started on a 10U team this fall. I really appreciate that it's not dad coached. I actually wish some of the dads would be quiet and just go away, but i suppose that's sports in general. Anyways, my child loves baseball and is very interested in learning more and practicing a lot. The LL practices were haphazard and I think the travel team at least surrounds him with kids who feel similarly about the sport. It's obviously more expensive than LL but you get what you pay for. |

My son's 13U travel baseball team just announced there would be try outs for the spring (tryouts held in another couple weeks) and all kids will need to re-compete for their spots. Surprise! It didn't give us much time to look at other options in case he is cut. Since spring tryouts are happening this month we will have to scramble to be sure kid ends up SOMEWHERE. He loves baseball, and going back to rec league would be sad for him. He wants serious and competitive but not cut throat. A good group of kids with solid coaching is more important than how much they win.
Any team recommendations? We are in the Columbia/Olney/Laurel/Silver Spring area. |
| Olney Bucs, Burtonsville Storm, Laurel Bolts, Dig In B or C teams, Olney All Stars, Rockville Rockets, Maryland Warriors, Savage Eagles. Look at MCBA teams and MABA teams. |
Daddyball is everywhere. Even when they hire nonDad coaches in travel, some Dad worms his way into the dugout. High school has been different - finally. |
| Ugh, I actually wish that playing time was impacted by obnoxious parents. Not because the kid deserves it but because I think it might be the only way to get some folks to sit the F down. |
Thanks, PP! Very helpful. |
Yeah check out the KOA thread ...unfortunately money matters.... |
Same here - are our kids on the same team? Our coaches are awesome!!! Uniform color? |
| I have a 7 y/o second grader who loves baseball. He is U8 right now. The other day he asked me if he could play travel baseball. I think he should wait until he is older though?! What age seems like a good time to start? |
| 10u is the age to start. |
| Agree with previous poster. Start at 10U. |
