Is it bad that I left orientation today feeling underwhelmed?

We had our orientation on Friday too. It was fine. The parents hang about in the class in a zombie like way, not being particularly friendly so we just find out where things are in the classroom, after meeting the teacher and filling in our information and taking the hand outs. It doesn't have to be a party.

I'm so glad there weren't lollipops and treasure hunts. Its 3rd grade for my DD and I was just glad to see a whole wall of books!

Calm down, parents. Give the teachers a chance. Geez!

I love you Beverly Farms poster.

A basic look at the classroom can be welcoming and friendly or neutral or demoralizing and depressing, depending on the teacher/room/mood. Some teachers suck and it's not being ignorant or demanding to feel sad about that and wish your kids were spending their year getting something better.

And some parents suck. And some doctors suck. And some lawyers suck.

Hey, that's life.

And as a teacher, while I agree with you, life's filled with disappointments. Man (or woman) up and complain.

I don't feel connected at all. The last two years the teachers only let their "favorite" parents in the classroom. I asked to volunteer and was denied (and I'm not an in your face or a pain the tush type of person). I would like to do more with the school, but don't feel like they want it (including the PTA). So, I guess that is why I'm over it.

Our private doesn't allow volunteers in the classroom, so there's that.

The class lists were posted this morning on the outside doors but had no information on the room number or where the classroom was in the school. When we got into the school there were no maps or signs to help us find the hallway where we needed to be. How can the communication to parents be so horrible?

Our school had PTA volunteers doing this work.
