Which one did you get?

We got ours five years ago - it was made by Bassett and really sturdy. It was an espresso one. I forget the name of it but I really liked it and the quality difference is huge. Its true you only use it for a few years but we will use it eventually as a headboard when we trade up to a full. It was one of the few that wasn't caught in the recalls though they did make a kit to stop the drop down side..

It will be a chewed on, scratched up headboard, trust me

Our headboard is not scratched or chewed up. The front rail was till I put a cover on it and a quick stain pen covered up the worst of it. My kid used his crib as a trampoline so the sturdier the better. No climbing out - just for jumping (and when he got good enough we obviously had to put him in the toddler bed). That's like someone saying do not buy a good dresser for a young kid. We bought a matching regular tall bassett and it still looks as good as the day we bought it. Teach your kids to take care of furniture.

+1
Some people have more money than sense.

-1 We wanted a sturdy crib and good car seats. We value safety. Other ways to save money but safety is not one.

Please explain to me in detail why your $800 crib is cheaper than my $100 IKEA crib tested to European standards?

Sorry, meant to say SAFER. I don't get how any crib is safer than another unless you're comparing to one of the recalled drop side cribs?

Mine was not $800 - I paid under $400 with delivery. The wood used is much thicker and sturdier. European standard are not always better. The wood difference on grandma's graco vs. ours was very different - her easily moved, flexed, etc. Ikea cribs have been recalled. Obviously not all of theirs are fully safe.

I agree with those who say you don't need to spend so much to get quality and safety -- unless, of course, you have money to spare and want to support a company doing good things. I always try to buy real wood and nontoxic finishes, for both my son and myself. I got a crib on Amazon for about $150 that used solid, FSC-certified wood, water-based finishes, and recycled packaging. My son was in it for years, first as a crib and then as a toddler bed, and it's still in great shape. I'm about to put it to use for my second. Unfortunately, I got it five years ago and it's no longer made, but I'm sure if you look around there are other affordable options.

OP, of what you posted, I like the Nest Crib best! Nice style, and made in the USA.

That being said, I recently bought a Graco Freeport crib, with a mattress made in the USA, which I am pretty happy with. I don't like the Ikea cribs, I don't think the mattress frame is sturdy enough.

Confession time-I really miss my drop side crib. I had one for my older kids, but the adult ones (2 are grown) would not let me use it for the new baby! These new cribs are so LOW to the floor.

Does anyone know where the Restoration Hardware cribs are made?

Op, I have the Restoration Hardware crib in the dark brown metal and love it. It is very sturdy and very pretty. My son is very comfortable in it. It's very roomy and when they deliver it, they put it together. It is heavy but movable. Can't answer to where it is made or its toxicity levels...I am comfortable to admit that I got it for aesthetic reasons only!

I don't get why anyone cares how much people spend on items. If you can, who cares? I chose to spend on a few key items and bought a lot less of unnecessary items that I personally didn't need. I'm sure everyone on here is a big boy and girl and can manage their own finances.
