Which fcps high school do you hear the worst stories about?

These poor kids are born, live their lives and die without ever leaving the confines of the Commonwealth of Virgnia.

Their students graduate woefully unprepared for the rigors of life and college academics.

Sorry your kid didn't get into a decent Va. school. You are an idiot.

This is a typical response from a mindless FCPS student lacking any and all analytical skills. Rather than supporting your position with a reasoned argument you make false assumptions and personal attacks. This FCPS student like many others would destroy others rather than listening and spending the time and effort required to improve themselves.

Hurry up and get out of bed. You are already late for two-a-days!

You get what you give.

Why is Mount Vernon so bad? It is such a lovely area. Is it drawing from route 1?

Former teacher here. I always heard the worst stories about Mt Vernon and Lee. Lots of problems with gang activity, teen pregnancy, etc. Apparently a good percentage of parents were either unwilling or unable to encourage their kids academically, which I'm sure is a huge driving factor.

Many years ago I worked at Lee. There were some good students and teachers but it was a sad, negative environment. There were gangs but I didn't feel unsafe. It was a cultural of apathy. I'm so happy I transferred to a different FCPS school.

I guess it goes to show, it's really about SES of the kids in the school rather than race. Lee is 99% white, but 56% FARMS.

No, it's not. Lee is 25% Asian, 14% black, 37% Hispanic, 20% white, and 3% other. It is 55% FARMs.

You must be looking at a different "Lee" HS.. No way it is 99% white. It is 20% white.

Mount Vernon High's feeders and the school itself has terrible scores. I just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger.

And to be clear, I am not a snob or score chaser. We ended up in a crappier house in the West Potomac district. I've been happy with the schools so far, including West Po.

Mt vernon is serving a lot of kids from low end apartments on rt.1. It is a relatively high crime/ low income area.

just like alexandria, the rich families in Mt. Vernon go private for High School. which completely skews the demographics. white flight is still alive and well in the 21st century.

White/middle class flight is not staying in one area, and sending your child to private school. I don't know what that is called.
