Infertility Support and Discussion
Is this new technique that SG will offer comparative genomic hybridization CGH? If so, this is exciting! CCRM (Colorado Center for Reproductive Medicine---probably the country's best clinic) has seen IVF success of 75-80%/cycle with CGH. |
| Yes - the PGD lab at SGF will be able to offer similar technology to CGH but I thought Dr. Kearns from the PGD lab told me they wouldn't freeze the embryos like other clinics do - their turn around would be quick enough to put the embryos back fresh. And just a note on the timing of when the lab would release this technology because I'd hate for someone to delay a cycle or plan a cycle based on their estimates. I was told this new technology would be available at SGF last summer and my RE had no clue what I was talking about when I inquired about it before cycling about it in the fall. So I'm not sure if their estimates are always accurate. |

I'm the OP. Thank you so much for informing me about this.
Sadly, I miscarried this week. I was 10 weeks along. I had my D&C two days ago. I have a consult with CCRM at the end of this month. I was considering CCRM because of the extensive testing I hear they do. Thank you again for letting, not just me, but everyone who might be in our situation, know about this. You might have saved many women huge heartaches. God bless you! |
| I'm so sorry for your loss. Please be kind to yourself and take the time to grieve and work through all of the different emotions you're about to go through. Best of luck to you and hang in there. |

i just saw this thread. I wanted to add my own personal experience with PGD. After repeated miscarriages/chemical pregnancies from natural conceptions, we did 3 IVF cycles with PGD at SG. Although we had a normal embryo on 2 of the cycles, neither embryo took after transfer. In part because I had had no trouble getting pregnant previously (although miscarrying subsequently), we ultimately decided that PGD was too hard on MY embryos and opted to do an IUI cycle. We were successful on a cycle with 4 follicles. PGD doesn't work for everyone . . .at the time, i believe that SG would not do PGD on less than 5 embryos. Perhaps the new technology offers more options . . .Good luck, e erybody. |
OP here. I just had a consult with CCRM. They said that freezing is critical when doing CGH because it should ideally test every single chromosome. And that takes weeks of time usually before the lab can get results. But CCRM does not use the typical freezing process. They use something called vitrification (spelling?). Apparently the thawing out process when doing vitrification does not destroy embies like typical freezing does. Over 80% of eggs survive. I would ask Dr. Kearns exactly HOW MANY chromosomes would be tested wtih CGH at SG. |
