I thought that there was only one school that you could transfer to for the IB/AP reason. So Marshall and Madison are linked. for exchange. South lakes is probably linked to a different school for AP- IB transfers. We tried a few years ago and they said Madison way completely over subscribed already, and only open to Marshall, and only under certain circumstances.
You can transfer out of Madison pretty easily but has to be done in January. |
| I know someone who is in Vienna at Marshall and heard that her child would have to go to Falls Church HS for AP. |
Yeah, he told me that too. It was 6 years ago. |
Actually, in the example I mentioned these were the mom's own words. her child couldn't handle all the writing in the IB classes she was taking (she was never signed up for the full diploma. apparently the girl had an difficult time doing the essays and the revisions in her IB classes and as a result her mom felt she was struggling to master basic concepts in the subject. sorry, I know we like to pretend that every student can do everything, but in this case it simply wasn't true and the grades reflected that. the girl transferred to an AP school and did much better. |
| So, could someone explain how the IB classes work if you don't do the diploma? To take the test and get the credit, do you have to take the class for two years? |
I'm sure that Vienna mom shaped up pretty quickly and became a-ok with IB upon hearing that her child would have to attend Falls Church for a "curricular transfer"
|
I could believe that. AP is a lot easier than IB. |
NP here. I am wondering if it wouldn't be Herndon? Isn't Hendon closer to South Lakes than Oakton OR Madison? |
Yes, she did. |
Pathetic! |
I'm the OP of this post and FCPS rules indicate that it depends on distance from the student's home. The home in question is in Vienna but zoned to South Lakes, and Madison is by far the closest AP school. |
Oh, that makes sense. |
LOL. That must be why IB is in all the high-achieving schools (not). |
AP is easier, IB was put in place to attract higher performing students. Whether it worked or not is up to debate. |
