I am the PP with the 10 and 11 yo kids who enjoyed it. 11 yo is a boy and 10 yo is a girl. It was not an action movie but boy liked it anyway. Next movie for him is Jurassic World which he is looking forward to seeing as well. |
My 8 yo son liked the movie a lot. He is a very boy type boy but he liked it. He loved Cars and The Incredibles. He also has a younger sister and count Mulan and Mulan II as favorites too. |
| I took my 7 year old DD. We both really enjoyed it. We even talked about the parts that made us tear up. Thought it was good. |
|
Husband took 7 year old son. I don't know what the movie is about. My son said to me: I wonder if I have someone in my head controlling me like Riley.
If that was in the movie, he understood it. If it wasn't, he didn't. |
| It seemed a bit deep from the previews, but based on these responses I definitely don't think we'll take our 4 year old. |
| Uh, this is not a spoilers thread, people. It'd be one thing if it was an older movie, but this just came out days ago. |
|
But you want the spoilers if you are assessing for your kids, no? I mean, you need to know what happened to decide if it's appropriate.
Nemo's mom dying at the beginning may have been a spoiler, but it was good info to have at the time. |
|
NP here. Nemo's mother died was in scene 1. To me a spoiler is something that happens as part of the climax of the movie.
I asked about taking an 11-year-old (for fear of boredom, general interest level), but honestly, I don't want to know the outcome of entire movie spoiled. |
My son (9) and his male best friend (11) loved it. Are you thinking this b/c the lead character is a girl? Hope not. Girls see movies and read books with lead male characters all the time. Until we assume that boys are equally capable of learning about / empathizing with girl characters, we won't make any progress in getting half of the population to see the other half as fully human. PSA over, sorry, I know you didn't deserve it. This is just a real irritant for me. Also, the movie is a little more cerebral than some others aimed at this age group, but again, no reason to assume that a boy can't enjoy a slightly more highbrow look at life. |
Yes, this is all I want to know! Will it hold the attention of 3-5 year olds? |
| My 12 yr old DS and 10 yr old DD both loved it (and so did DH and I) |
took my 4-yo daughter. she didn't ask for water or snack and only removed her 3d glasses once for several seconds, so i think the movie did a good job for her, even though she didn't understand it. |
My 3.5 year old HATED the short film before Inside Out. Made him cry and I think it kind of spoiled the main movie for him. He has been to other movies and never been bothered by them. My six year old liked it but she did cry during a sad scene. |
My 8.5 year old loved it. I thought it was clever, too. We had some good discussions about emotions afterward, too. Not sure he would have gotten it a year ago, though. |
| Took my 3 year old, and it was her first movie theatre movie. At the end, she said she didn't like it because it was too long. I agree, although I appreciated the movie more than her, as an adult. |
