TJ gets turned into a mini-U.Va. while FCPS leaves FCHS in this squalid condition. Absolutely and completely shameful.

That's pretty horrible. Before the renovation process begun, however, TJ's building was also in pretty bad condition. Most of the facilities had not been touched since 1964 --ceiling tiles, doors, door frames etc. were untouched. The majority of the water fountains were broken at any given time and the bathrooms were also disgusting.

TJ looked like this in the late 90's when I graduated. When I returned as alumni in the early 2000's, I was told that during PE, a ceiling tile might drop from the ceiling at any moment so you must be aware of your surroundings during PE class.

Falls Church HS can wait another 10 years and we'll be happy for their makeover, rotunda and all.

Apparently Platenburg found some money to upgrade some of the science labs at FCHS on a spot basis - the juxtaposition of the conditions at FCHS and the Taj Mahal under construction at TJ shamed even the mandarins at Gatehouse.

All the renovations are planned years in advance and voted on by taxpayers. As shown here, Langley is up next.

Is Falls Church a Fairfax County school? Or is it run by Falls Church?

The major capital expenditure projects are planned years in advance and described in the related bond offering documents. However, FCPS typically has certain discretionary funds at its disposal that can be used for less extensive renovations, such as the renovations of some of the science labs at Falls Church High School.

Falls Church is a Fairfax County school. George Mason is the only high school in Falls Church City.
