Best of both worlds, then.

What about dark expresso vanities? Still in style or not so much?

...oops, meant to say "espresso".

I think simple decor seems to be the overarching theme -- whether it's travertine, marble or subway tile, bathrooms are designed to be serene spaces. I can't see a return to splashy wallpaper and primary colors anytime soon. Or Mamie pink!

Out of style according to salesperson at Home Depot today. Not sure how much I trust his opinion.

Take that with a grain of salt.

I am always amused and a bit confused when people say they hate subway tile and can't wait for it to be out again. What's to hate? It's rectangular tile. It comes in lots of different colors and looks it's a fairly classis shape and style. If you don't like rectangles, pick squares. There aren't that many different shapes.

While I think bathrooms/showers with a lot of tiny mosaic tile looks really nice, it's not a very practical choice imo. If the shower is used a lot it will be harder to keep clean.

I'm a big fan of 12x24" tile now. I'm not sure if its considered "trendy" right now, but it's not boring looking like square 12" or 16" tile imo. The larger size also means fewer grout joints which is a plus. I'm not saying 12" square tile doesn't look good, but 12x24 definitely has a more modern feel if you're going for that look.

Like anything, you don't want to go with anything too trendy, as it'll surely look dated sooner than later. I personally can't stand all white showers/etc as it's just too boring, but to each their own.

We recently gutted an '80s bathroom with gray tub/toilet, gray/burgundy geometric tiles, burgundy floor, etc. Someone was very excited to design and build that bathroom back in the day! We lived with it because it was functional -- only replaced it when fixtures started losing their effectiveness because seriously, it's a bathroom, it worked, and I don't care what people think about my outdated but functional bathroom.

We just redid it with (gasp) white subway tile, white fixtures, espresso vanity, marble top, wood-look ceramic floor.

Just did the same, but with black and white basket weave tile on the floor.

Shall we meet in a year to cry over how dated our bathrooms are?

I did mine like this (honeycomb floor) 5 years ago and still love it.

Ha! For the money we spent, I had better like it next year, and the year after and the year after that! I think it is a classic look and that we both have good taste.
