I agree Maine would be sublime but requires flights which makes frequent trips $$$$$

Bryce Resort has Lake Laura- that's within two hours. It's a smaller lake with no motorized boating but it's very clean and pretty.

Is Bryce 4 season resort? Wisp has ropes course and tree roller coaster for example. Deep creek is stare park; is national or state park near Bryce?

I have been to lake Anna twice with visiting family and most likely won't again. There is nothing but overly warm water with too much growing in it and the towns around it like Mineral don't give the impression that they are aware that they lost the (Civil) War. The rest is a bunch of Feds/contractors with hick tendencies who already live as far from their DC jobs as they can possibly stand making the migration to boat and get drunk as hell while whipping around in their motor toys often unsafely.

Bryce is a four season resort. Golf, summer tubing, zip line, mountain biking, hiking and fishing in the summer. Skiing/ snowboarding and tubing in the winter. It's very close to George Washington National Forest for hiking and camping and isn't too far from Shenandoah National Park.

What about a mountain house? Wintergreen, Massanutten, etc… are closer and I think they have lakes or pools close by.

I love the boats, and what I miss about living in Michigan: tubing and water skiing all day on the lake. I grew up living right off a lake in Mich and totally miss it.
