1 MacBook, 1 iphone 4s, 1 Ipad, 2 desktops, 2 kindle paperwhites, 1 itouch, two Nintendo DS that don't get used much anymore, and one very basic Wii

I thought this was a lot but now looking at other people's lists it doesn't seem so bad.

1 desktop PC
1 laptop
2 prepaid cellphones (my husband and I)
1 TV in the parents bedroom

We don't feel we need more at all. Our kids will get their own prepaid phones when the need arises - we are so far thinking some time between 12 and 14 years old. Our kids will never have their own laptop/PC or TV because the less screen time they get the healthier they are over all.

Not sure how old your kids are but I found my kids really needed laptops in high school and definitely in college. They both take all their class notes on the laptop in college and in most cases are expected to have their computers with them in class. If you have young kids the technology itself will likely be different when they are older but I would be a little cautious about shielding them from all technology as it may put them at a disadvantage.

You may also want to consider the social aspects as they get older because so much communication among kids is done via text and other means that the kids who don't have smartphones can be left out. Even my kids coaches and teachers use technology as a primary communication tool so they could miss critical information. This assumes of course that you aren't homeschooling, or aren't in an area where use of phones isn't as common as it is in DC.

Let's see:

1 desktop
4 active laptops (plus several older ones lying around for spare parts)
2 iPads
2 Kindle Fires
6 iPhones (only 4 are in use)
1 iPod Touch
1 Kindle Paperwhite

We also have other internet connected devices, like gaming consoles and media players. I need a server, not a router.

Oh - that makes me feel better - I looked at our router and counted 14 active last night. Family of Four.

1 desktop
3 active laptops

1 Kindle
2 Iphones
2 Itouches (in use)

1 adult, 1 elementary schooler

1 iPhone
1 iPad
1 iMac
1 iPod

In the "outdated computer " section of the attic - 1 iMac, 1 PowerBook, at least one iPod. There may be even more ancient Macs in my parents' basement, as I got my first one in the late 80s. About six months ago I actually pulled the 1998 PowerBook out of the attic, plugged it in, and booted it up. It booted, and amazingly the interface didn't look anywhere near as outdated as I thought it would. The programs still worked.

I keep my stuff going for a long time and only upgrade under duress.
