Thoughts on the name Ivy?

Nice name but Beyonce's Blue Ivy ruined it for me

I don't like it. My first thought is poison....

Don't like it. At all. But to each his own.

Trendy and trashy. Not a REAL name. IMO

It's definitely at a high right now, but otherwise held a stable popularity over the past 100 years. At it's peak now, there are only about 500 babies for every million, so it's no Sophia... It may keep climbing, but if you used it now, I think you'd be ahead of the trend. Hopefully, it's historical popularity will keep it from becoming a specifically dated name like "Jennifer".

Baby name voyager is great for these questions!!

Of course it's a real name. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's not a real name.

And if you go to the nameberry page, there is a list of accomplished Ivys. First Female British barrister, a US Sec of the Treasury...go ahead and tell them they were trashy.

That's just silly. I am the PP with a daughter named Ivy. My DH and I both have female ancestors named Ivy in our family tree four or five generations back.

In the 5 years of my DD's life, only one person has ever said anything about poison ivy, and he was a preschooler.

What is a fake name? An alias? If it says "Ivy" on your birth certificate, then Ivy is your REAL name.

Or do you mean that there haven't historically been people named Ivy? If so, that's incorrect. See Wikipedia for people named Ivy with Wikipedia pages: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivy_(name)

I have an unfortunate negative association with the name, personally, and would never use it because that's the undesirable image that always springs to my mind when I hear the name, but I acknowledge that it's pretty and a perfectly fine and lovely name if someone likes it for their child.

I like it!!
