Wow, I don't spend that much on myself. I'm jealous of your children.

Yeah seriously that's a lot.

I spend 3 times that for my 7 yr old BOY. It really depends on your income and lifestyle.

No. No, it doesn't have to. We have well over seven figures in savings and bring in close to seven figures annually. I have NEVER spent $3,000 on clothes for my child in a year. You are throwing money away if you do that. Kids can look perfectly nice and well put-together while spending less than half that. Kids grow. Kids stain their clothes. Total waste of money.

Seriously? It's not a waste of money if that's what they want to spend their money on. Why do you care? If someone travels a lot, is that a waste of money? If they have a hobby that is expensive, it that a waste of money? If they have the financial means to spend a lot on clothes, why not?

Our net worth is in the 8 figures and DS needs formal, tailored clothes for the places we travel to. We take our nanny too.

Let's reacquaint ourselves with the meaning of the word "need." You want your DD to have formal, tailored clothes. She could wear far cheaper clothes and life would go on.

DS not DD and I never said "need" but what is appropriate for life style and income.

Is PP's 7 year old in a boy band or something? Is he wearing gold chains? What the hell does a 7 year old need with nice clothes?!

Boy band?!? I wish. He goes where we go. Example, he getting fitted for a vacation in Europe where he needs summer suits and a tux for parties we are planning to attend. He's going with the nanny in case he needs to leave.

Lmao. Getting fitted? Whatever, as if you can't buy a 7-year old a cheap suit off the rack. No one (worth having in your life) is scrutinizing the fit of a kid's suits. Carry on with your jet set life but this is so far from typical for a child's clothing budget.

It's not about what other people think but being appropriately dressed for the event. Our friends' kids will be similarly dressed.

Your explanation pretty much concedes it's about what other people think. Keep on keepin' up with the Joneses.

If one chooses to attend formal events, you need to be dressed appropriately.

Pardon me for misstating the gender of your clothes horse, er, child. And you did say "need."

Naturally, and that means you must spend a lot of money, even for elementary school children, otherwise the Joneses will think poorly of you.

Yes, "need" bc he is attending events where he can't show up in jean shorts and a tee shirt. That will be inappropriate. If your child does not go to these types of places, you don't have to spend the money on formal, tailored clothes.

The Jones are't invited so no need to worry about what they think at all.

Great, so you lied about what you "never" said. And you're making a straw man argument. No one said he should show up in jeans to the ball. But that doesn't mean he "needs" tailored, fitted clothes. There are suits for kids that are pre-made and fine. Whatever, lady. You do you.

DS is getting off the rack but getting the fitted, like hemming for pants. Not custom made like an adult. Feel better.

I don't think any 7 year old boys are "choosing" to attend formal events.
