Exactly, Why don't we wait to see if the new Brookland Middle will actually hit at least 50% capacity before building yet another middle school in Ward 4. Lots of kids in lower ward 4 could be districted to Brookland. Sorry folks, but just because its new and shiny doesn't mean its good. Dunbar is brand new and academically and socially its a hot mess.

You need a DC geography lesson. There is no existing ward 4 middle school. And your boundaries would look ridiculous.

So does Ward 10 = MoCo residency cheaters that I follow in to my HRCS in the morning. When I get there I am greeted by the VA tags doing U-turns. Are they Ward 11?

What constituency are they the offspring of?

If you knew your facts or were familiar with these communities you would realize that most PG residents are originally from Maryland.

It does? Per 15-16 feeder patterns it appears to be a feeder only for J.O Wilson, Ludlow Taylor and Peabody/Watkins.

I find all of the talk about "needing Brent" to be kind of funny. Brent wasn't Brent until a few years ago, and Maury wasn't Maury until a few years later than that. LT is projected to be all IB this year and JO is tracking that way (and has an amazing principal that I wouldn't bet against). With all due respect to the child geniuses and their PR staff at Brent, a betting man would bet on SH on the Hill.

PP here. For those who will ask, here's the feeder pattern cite. http://dcps.dc.gov/DCPS/Files/downloads/Learn-About-Schools/Enrollment/SY1516%20School%20Feeder%20Patterns.pdf

Deal is closer to many neighborhoods in eotp Ward 4 than Brookland MS is.

And the boys bathroom overflowed sewage this week at Murch - just lovely.

Hey SH booster, do you live in Ward 6 or in PG County? Seems to me that had you lived on the Hill you would know that 72% of JOW is OOB, while 79% of Watkins and LT are each OOB. Moreover, 83% of SH is OOB. In other words, a piece of paper settig forth feeder patterns tells you absolutely zilch. SH had the opportunity to be another Alice Deal but the Cluster/CHPSPO leadership and DCPS weren't supportive of a Brent or SWS feeder, and Tommy Wells conveniently took a powder. So Brent families find themselves relegated to Jefferson, which is almost 2 miles away, after having been thrown the bone of a EH co-feed for a couple of years. Yu probably are also unaware that the Cluster principal kade a push to entice Brent families to come to SH ny telling them --erroneously -- that they could transfer to Watkins at the end of SY. Guess what? We're more than happy to move onto Basis or Ltim and not look back. That's what the smart money is doing.

Uh ... nobody is betting on SH. At least not while Watkins is almost entirely OOB and feeds into it.

That 72 percent doesn't hold true if you look at younger grades. Same for Ludlow Taylor. So yes, I will grant you that 8 years ago the number of IB were higher. The upper grades of Ludlow are mostly OOB. PK3 and PK4 and K will be 89 percent IB on a blended basis. But you know that was true at Maury 8 years ago. Come to think of it, Brent too. Don't let the facts get in the way. Which would hold with the demographic and population shifts on the Hill.

But my favorite part of your little screed is this misnomer that somehow everyone is better for having Brent kids in their presence. I'd be pissed too if my kid was rerouted to EH or Jefferson. Of course, based on your post you seem to think that Brent has a god given right to Basis or Latin. Hmm, doesn't seem like a by-right feeder pattern, but maybe you guys have super secret Brent powers.

Here's one last observation. Brent parents seem to look down on others who are SH Booster, or Ludlow Boosters, or [insert name here] boosters. Why are Brent parents the only ones who can play that game? You guys are so cute.

Inferiority complex?

Look every parent wants their child in a good school that's not physically crumbling and that cuts across all wards. The issue with modernizations and renovations is they seem to be done in a vacuum with zero coordination with any demographics. It's not rocket science. Just look at deal and Wilson. Deal was renovated for 300 a class and Wilson for 400 a class. Deal is not the only feeder and yet it would be sending almost enough students ( I do realize they don't all go) to almost fill Wilson. And then surprise! They are both way overcrowded. Where's the accountability? It just seems to continue where the left hand doesn't know what the right is doing.

Public school contracting has been one of the biggest areas of corruption and political patronage going. I'd be curious to see how the money trail goes on this one...

In fact, it is Rocket Science. There is a lot more to balance than enrollment numbers. That includes finances, the physical status of 150+ buildings with decades of deferred maintenance, changing boundaries, politics, hazmats, etc.

Sorry PP. They should be able to coordiante renovations with enrollment. Renovations are done within no visible coordination with anything. Most buildings are in awful shaoe but the notion n that you can remodel and magically boost enrollment and turn a school around is insane. Look at all the money poured into recent HS renovations. No one is running for Dunbar. There needs to be better coordination and accountability becauae right now you have remodeled schools with low enrollment and recently remodeled schools that have second remodels because the first wasn't big enough. Rocket science or not, they're not getting it right.
