Why did you choose a private school?

I meant this for another thread and I have no idea why it ended up here.

1. smaller class sizes
2. wanting to foster a love of learning early
3. reduced focus on standardized testing
4. frequent (daily/multiple times a week) PE, music, art, language class
5. positive environment with an emphasis on kindness
6. ability to differentiate academically, because the teachers get to know each kid's strengths and weaknesses

This, plus our in-bounds school in DC was not a good option and we did not want to move to the 'burbs. Tuition is the price we pay for a great school and a short commute to work.

+1. I think of it as buying my kids both a better education (than they could get at our inbounds school) AND more time with their parents (b/c living close to downtown DC keeps our commutes super-short).

DC public and charter schools have improved tremendously in the last decade. You should revisit your position based on the current state of affairs.

NP, but I agree on not trusting DC. I've toured a number of publics and charters in the last 3 years, and I wouldn't send my kid. And my trash didn't get picked up for something like 6 weeks this winter.
